March 6 & 7, 2015 - Skiing at Cannon Mountain & Copper Cannon Camp

On March 6 & 7, St. Peter's sent a crew of 10 girls to downhill ski at Cannon Mountain - Franconia Notch State Park, New Hamphshire. Anh and Ben were joined by Janice from St. Peter's for an early morning departure on Friday, March 6th. Playing hooky was well worth it as it was a bluebird day on the mountain.

After the 2+ hour drive the kids got their equipment on and headed to their ski lesson. The first time on skis is always the toughest, and this day was no exception. All the girls had never been downhill skiing before, and the folks at Cannon were very generous to hook them up with a great day. (Thank you, Cannon!) After lunch, we headed up the Aerial Tramway to the top of the mountain - 4,100' - for a hike around the snowy and sunny summit and weather station.

Then we headed to the Copper Cannon Camp just down the road in Bethlehem where Pete and the crew hosted us in their new awesome dining hall / rec center for an afternoon of dancing, food prep and good times with great views of Cannon and the Franconia Ridge. Rosco, the camp dog, made us all feel welcome, and the CCC was very good to us.

On Saturday morning we ventured out for a short hike on the Raven's Nest Trail where Rosco led the group with deer and bunny tracks crossing. He sniffed excitedly around the tracks. Upon return we cooked up breakfast, cleaned up the center and headed back to Boston. So much more than this, but a great trip using all this snow we've had.
